Kollund Havhave
A locally anchored, community-led marine garden for the Danish/German fjord.
Kollund Havhave is a Danish, non-profit association based in Kollund by the Flensburg Fjord. The association works with blue mussels, seaweed and other marine-based approaches that combine nature restoration, local food production, learning and community engagement.
Our approach is practical and dialogue-based. We develop and test solutions in close collaboration with local communities, associations, municipalities and research environments – with respect for the fjord as both a natural and cultural landscape.
Purpose
The purpose of Kollund Havhave is to:
- contribute to a healthier marine environment in the Flensburg Fjord
- strengthen local and citizen-driven knowledge about the sea
- foster learning, engagement and community across generations
- act as a platform for collaboration between civil society, authorities and research
The work is based on small-scale, experimental and adaptive approaches, where hands-on experience from practice plays a central role.
Approach and collaboration
Kollund Havhave works on a project basis and through open partnerships. The association sees itself as a connecting platform that can:
- coordinate local initiatives
- engage in dialogue and cooperation with municipalities and relevant authorities
- support research and monitoring activities
- involve schools, seniors and volunteers in hands-on, practice-oriented activities
The association is in ongoing dialogue with local initiatives and communities along the entire Flensburg Fjord – including Flensburger Meeresgarten as well as Danish associations such as Trappen Muslingelaug and Den Blå Kolonihave – with a focus on knowledge sharing, exchange of experience and local anchoring.
Kollund Havhave is also in dialogue with local fishers in the area to explore how existing professional experience and local conditions can contribute to the development of more regenerative and nature-positive practices.

Organisation
Kollund Havhave is organised as an association and is driven by voluntary engagement combined with project-based work. The association can act as a lead partner in collaborative projects and take responsibility for coordination, reporting and dialogue between partners.
Kollund Havhave is a member of Havhøst, a national network for regenerative marine initiatives and community-based sea cultivation.
